Travel Tips: 1. Food has to be carried from Meppadi town. Water is available at a stream on mid way to the peak, but it's suggested to carry enough water.
2. Start early, so that you can return before dusk.
3. This is the third highest peak in the South after Anaimudi near Munnar (2695 meters) and Doddabetta Peak near Ooty (2637 meters).
4. District Tourism Promotion Council in Kalpetta (Ph: 04936-602134 / 602712) can provide guide, sleeping bags & trekking instruments on hire.

At a distance of 17 Kms from Kalpetta, Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad & third highest peak in South India at an altitude of 2100 metres. This place is a trekker's paradise. Chembra Peak is part of the Wayanad hill ranges in the Western Ghats.

Trekking to the Chembra Peak is a challenging task and recommended for experienced trekkers. Prior permission is required from the forest office in Meppady to the peak. A heart shaped lake on the way to top of the peak is a major attraction. The actual trek starts from the watchtower at the foot hill of Chembra Peak which is about 7 Kms from Meppadi. The trek entry point can be reached by private vehicles (jeeps) from Meppadi town. The peak is 11 Kms (one way) from watch tower & takes 4-5 hrs. Camping allowed at top of the peak.

There is an alternate route to visit Soochipara Waterfalls (11 Kms) while trekking down the Chembra Peak.

Best season is November - January.
