At a distance of 9 km from Munnar Bus Stand, the Lockhart Tea Museum is a museum located in Devikulam, Munnar. It is one of the must-include places in Munnar.

The Lockhart Tea Museum was originally constructed in 1936, and was opened to the public in 2014.The museum is part of the Lockhart Estate, one of the earliest tea plantations in Munnar, established by Baron John Von Rosenberg and his son, Baron George Otto Von Rosenberg in 1879. The Lockhart Tea factory produces about 20 million kilograms of tea annually and is now owned by Harrisons Malayalam Limited, one of South India's largest tea cultivators.

The museum offers a historical insight into the first ever tea plantations of Munnar which date back to 1879. The museum houses several equipment, data and info explaining the nitty gritties of tea production and processing. Here you can see the mechanical harvesting machines, shears, and fletcher sprayers along with 100 years old photographs of the British planters during their hunting, Bullock carts, Allwyn Prestocold refrigerator, Funerary Urn etc. This living Museum and factory gives a bucketful of knowledge about orthodox tea processing and the operations that go into the making of black tea, green tea, and white tea in traditional ways.

The factory allows public visits during regular working hours. There are also a variety of freshly brewed teas which you can choose from and taste. One can also pick up packaged tea from here to take back home with you. The factory and museum are located on the slopes of Chokarmudy, one of South India's highest peaks, from which the entire valley of Lockhart can be seen.
