At a distance of 8 km from Peermedu, and 36 km from Thekkady, Kuttikkanam is a small hill town located in the Idukki District of Kerala. It is one of the scenic places to visit near Thekkady.

Situated at an altitude of 3500 feet, Kuttikkanam is surrounded by lush green tea plantations and is situated within the territory of Peermade. During the 16th century, the territory of Kuttikkanam was under the rule of Changanacherry kings and was uninhabited. In the year 1756, the king of Travancore conquered Changanacherry and brought the place under his supremacy. A Church Mission Society missionary, Henry Baker, started coffee plantations, and under the regency of Sri Moolam Thirunal. Under the rule of the British East India Company, Kuttikkanam became an up-market resort.

The pristine hill town of Kuttikkanam is between high-range and low-range terrain. Dew from the valley to the mountain will make your heart and mind rejoice. The wild beauty of nature and the mild climate make Kuttikkanam one of the most sought-after destinations for honeymooners. Various tea plantations across the hills and Valanjanganam Waterfalls are the other best-visited attractions close by. There is also a 100-acre Pine forest that serves as the location for shooting films. The summer palace of the Travancore kings was located in Kuttikkanam.

Kuttikanam also serves as one of the best hiking locations in Idukki. The trails are fantastic and one can get some breathtaking views of the hills and greenery that surround the area. Cardamom and tea plantations lie everywhere and the aroma flooding the vicinity is truly ethereal. Bison and monkeys can be viewed in the area along with a host of other rare fauna.
