About Pykara Falls
At a distance of 2 km from Pykara Lake and 23 km from Ooty Bus Stand, Pykara Falls is a majestic waterfall located in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. Situated on the Ooty - Mysore road, this is one of the best waterfalls near Bangalore, and among the most popular Ooty places to visit. Pykara Falls is formed by the Pykara River and is situated downstream of the Pykara Dam.
Height of Pykara Falls
The Pykara Waterfall drops down into two sections with a height of 55 m and 61 m through multiple layers on the rocky bed providing a unique beauty to the stream. The waterfall amidst the dense forest is a treat to watch. There are barricades along with the waterfall viewpoint for the safety of the tourists. It is one of the must-visit places for honeymoon couples and nature lovers as part of their Ooty tour. The surroundings of the Pykara are famous for the Toda settlements and these are one of the very few placements where you find the Todas in their natural habitat.
Swimming at Pykara Falls
Swimming is possible at upper cascades, but not recommended as the path is filled with sharp rocks and the depth of the water is very less. Swimming in the lower part of Pykara Falls is dangerous and is mostly closed in the monsoon season to avoid accidents.
Best Time to Visit Pykara Falls
The best time to see the waterfall is during the post-monsoon season. Avoid visiting during the monsoon months as the waterfall is unpredictable, and the level of water might rise suddenly without any forewarning which can result in catastrophe for any tourist.

How to Reach Pykara Falls
Pykara Waterfall is about 23 km from Ooty and can be reached by bus or cab. The waterfall can be reached by a little moderate walk (5-10 mins) on a well-laid path from the parking location.
