At a distance of 500 m from Dehradun Railway Station, Sri Ram Rai Gurudwara is a famous Sikh pilgrimage center in Dehradun. Darbar It was established by Guru Ram Rai, the eldest son of the seventh Guru of the Sikhs, Sri Har Rai ji.

According to legend, Guru Ram Rai was casted away for becoming a Sikh Guru and was forced to leave his native place. He came and setup his camp at Dehradun in 1676. The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was highly impressed by the miraculous powers of Guru Ram Rai Ji. Hence he asked Raja of Garhwal, Fateh Shah to extend all possible help to Sri Guru Ram Ji. Initially a Gurudwara was built in Dhamawala. The construction of the present building of Darbar Sahib was completed in 1707.

The Gurudwara is an example of Islamic and Hindu architecture. The building contains domes, minarets, and mural paintings reflecting a mixed culture and represents spiritual enlightenment. The Gurudwara contains Adi Granth Sahib, the holy books of Sikhs and has a large dining hall where free meals is cooked in community kitchen and served free to all visitors. The walls of the Gurudwara are carved with flowers and motifs, while paintings of religious figures of different religions are displayed. There is a pond in the compound that measures 200 x 80 feet and filled with water where devotees come and take a dip.

An annual Jhanda fair is held every year on the 5th day after Holi at this Gurudwara. Jhanda fair is the flag hoisting ceremony celebrated in memory of Guru Ram Rai. Sikh pilgrims from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh come here to celebrate the festival.
