At a distance of 57 Kms from Kottayam & 16 Kms from Erattupetta (near Vagamon), Kurisumala is a sacred mountain and one of the most prominent pilgrim centers for Christians in South India. The church comes under Diocese of Neyyattinkara.

The word Kurisumala means Mount of the Cross. Kurisumala Ashram is situated at foothill of the mountain. During the holy week, hundreds of devotees climb this holy hill carrying small wooden crosses.

There is another mount on the eastern side of this hill called Muruganmala, which houses a rock cut temple dedicated to Muruga. There is a beautiful artificial lake on the way to Kurisumala.
