At a distance of 17 Kms from Coonoor, Droog Fort is said to be used by Tippu Sultan as an outpost. The historical Droog Fort at an altitude of about 6000 feet above the lush plains, offers a spectacular view to the visitors and is one of the popular Coonoor tourist places.

To reach this place, one has to go up to Nonsuch Estate and trek down for about 4 kms. Bird's eye view of Fort expresses easily as to why Tipu Sultan selected this site as the outpost. The Droog Fort offers a panoramic view of the surroundings, now only a wall remains of this military outpost. According to mythological tales, the fort is linked with the legend of a local demon, Bakasura. Due to this, it is also called Bakasura Malai by the natives.

This place demands moderate level trekkingfor about 1 Hour one way.
