Nestled in the shadows of the Western Ghats, Marayoor is a pre-historic site and one of the popular places of heritage in Kerala. It is the only tourist place in Kerala that has natural sandalwood forests. For over ten centuries, Marayur has managed to preserve a stone-clad secret deep in its soul. The jungles and hillsides of Marayoor are dotted with remnants of Dolmens called muniyaras belonging to the Megalithic age. Marayoor is also famous for its ancient rock paintings located in Attala, Ezhuthu Guha (near Kovilkadavu), and Manala. Lakkam Falls, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary & Thoovanam Waterfalls, and Amaravathi Dam are some important places to visit in Marayoor. Marayoor is one of the best places to visit as part of Munnar tour packages.

Typically, 1-2 days is required to explore Marayoor. Munnar, Valparai, Coimbatore, Kochi, Meghamalai, Thrissur, Madurai, and Trivandrum are also close to Marayoor and 3-4 day trips can be planned to visit Marayoor along with these places.
