At a distance of 93 Km from Surat, Ukai Dam is an earth-cum-masonry dam situated at Ukai in the Surat district of Gujarat. Also referred as Vallabh Sagar, it is one of the most beautiful places to visit near Surat.
The construction of Ukai Dam commenced in 1964 and was completed in 1972. Situated across the Tapti River, it ranks as the second largest reservoir in Gujarat, following the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The dam is meant for the purposes such as irrigation, power generation, and flood control. Ukai Dam's storage capacity accounts for approximately 46% of the total capacity of all other water dams in Gujarat combined.
With a catchment area of around 62,225 square kilometers and a water spread of approximately 52,000 hectares, its capacity is nearly equivalent to that of the Bhakra Nangal Dam. The embankment wall measures 4,927 meters in length. The height of the earth dam is 105.156 meters, while the masonry dam stands at 68.68 meters. The left bank canal of the dam supplies water to an area of 1,522 square kilometers, whereas the right canal services 2,275 square kilometers. The Ukai Hydro Power Station comprises a total of four turbine units, each rated at 75 MW, culminating in a total installed capacity of 300 MW. All these units have been proposed and manufactured by BHEL.

At a distance of 15 km from Bhuj Railway Station, Rudramata Dam is an earthen dam situated at Nokhania village in Bhuj Taluk of Gujarat. Built on the Khari River, this is the biggest in the Kutch district, and among the famous Bhuj tourist places.
Also known as Rudrani Dam, the construction of the dam was started in 1959 and was completed in 1970. The catchment area of the dam is 572 Sq.km and the gross storage capacity is 65 cubic millimeters. This artificial reservoir supplies water to deserted areas around Bhuj.
Considered as biggest Dam of Kutch, the view from the top of the dam is breathtaking. There is one beautiful temple near the Dam called Rudra Mata temple. The temple complex houses the 400 years old Rudramata Temple with smaller temples devoted to other Gods and Goddesses. One can also visit Rakshak Van on the banks of the dam.
