At a distance of 21 Kms from Mysore & 6 kms from Srirangapatna, Karighatta Hill is situated at an altitude of 2,697 feet. Atop the hill is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The black idol is beautiful and more than 6 feet tall, which was installed by sage Brigu. It is believed that if troubled people perform pooja/rituals here it brings about a positive change in their lives.

There are lots of long and sharp grasses known as Darbe around the temple. Legend says that Vishnu during Varaha avatar landed on this hill and shook his body and some of his hair fell and grew into these sharp Darbe. The confluence of Cauvery and Lokapavani rivers is an attractive sight.

The annual car festival is held in the month of Feb / Mar.
