Adjacent to Eve's Beach, the Light House Beach is the largest of the three beaches in Kovalam. The beach is named after the 30 m high Lighthouse located towards the southern end of the beach. Vizhinjam is famous for the 18th century rock-cut caves. This granite cave is a one-celled shrine with sculptures of Vinandhara Dakshinamurthi (Lord Shiva).The outer wall of the cave depicts half complete reliefs of the Hindu God Shiva with Goddess Parvathi. Vizhinjam was earlier the capital of the Ay chieftains who ruled the southern parts of Kerala in the 8th century AD.
