At a distance of 23 km from Kumily, Mullaperyiar Dam or Mullaiperiyar Dam is a masonry gravity dam situated near Thekkady in Kerala. It is one of the must-include places in Thekkady sightseeing packages.

Mullaperiyar Dam was built on the Periyar River between 1887 and 1895. The dam is so-called because the dam is located after the confluence of the Mullayar and Periyar rivers. The dam is located at an altitude of 881 m (2,890 ft) on the Cardamom Hills of the Western Ghats in Thekkady. The dam is 175 feet tall and 1,200 feet long. Though the dam is situated in Kerala, it is operated by the Tamil Nadu Government. It was according to a 999-year lease agreement made during the British rule that the operational rights were handed over to Tamil Nadu.

Boating in the reservoir is available from the Boat Jetty at the Thekkady side of the reservoir.
