At a distance of 7 Km from Surat Railway Station, Sarthana Nature Park is a zoological garden located in Surat, Gujarat, India. Also known as Shyamaprasad Mukherji Zoological Garden, it is one of the best places to as part of the Surat wildlife packages.
Sarthana Nature Park was established in 1984 and is owned and managed by the Surat Municipal Corporation. It is the first zoo and breeding center in the South Gujarat region, as well as the largest zoological garden in the state. The purpose of establishing the Nature Park is to raise awareness about wildlife and to breed endangered and extinct species found locally, regionally, and nationally in a systematic manner.
The park spans an area of 81 acres, bordered by the Tapi River to the north and Surat Kamrej Road to the south. Known for its rich biodiversity, Sarthana National Park provides a natural habitat for numerous animal species, including lions, tigers, and leopards, along with a variety of birds. The zoo has successfully bred lions, Royal Bengal tigers, Himalayan bears, and white peafowl. Birdwatchers visit the park to observe rare avian species, while botanists appreciate the diverse plant species that enhance its landscapes. A notable feature of the park is its butterfly garden, where visitors can witness various butterfly species in their natural environment.
