At a distance of 3 km from Tangmarg, and 13 km from Gulmarg Bus Station, Drung Waterfall is a stunning waterfall located in the Tangmarg tehsil of Gulmarg. Situated at Drung village, it is one of the beautiful waterfalls in Kashmir, and among the famous Gulmarg sightseeing places.

Set amidst majestic mountains, the waterfall is named after Drung village and is located on its outskirts. The name of the village is Drung but the waterfall also gets spelled as Drang or Durung. Once it was a natural waterfall but what you see now is mostly a controlled flow of water from a hydroelectric power plant, at the top of a small hill. There is a small dam at the top of the hill, and the water from the dam is released through a pipe and falls down the mountain, creating the Drung Waterfall.

This waterfall gushes down beautifully in summers and it remains completely frozen during winters. It is most visited in winter when the waterfall freezes as it comes down, forming icicles. There is also a small temple in the vicinity. There are stalls around that serve tea and snacks for people to have while they take in the magnificent scenes.

This waterfall is easily accessible from Srinagar and falls in the Tangmarg area of Gulmarg. The best way to enjoy this place in winter is to take a 3 km walk from Tangmarg where the road winds through a thick jungle with some breathtaking views. Since Drung is a small village, there are only a few hotels and lodgings available. For better options, one can stay in the nearest tourist place, Gulmarg.
