Jungle trekking is adventurous journey along the thick Dandeli forests where visitors can explore the nature, wildlife & birds. This is really an adventurous activity in Dandeli Forest, usually undertaken by the young tourists. Trekking is one of the top things to do in Dandeli.

There are several trekking routes in Dandeli. Kavala Caves trek, Kulgi-Nagzari Valley trek and Potoli-Shiroli trek. These are organized by Kulgi Nature Camp, which is run by the forest department. Kulgi-Nagzari Valley trek is a hard and is about 15 km long trek which takes about 8 hours. Potoli-Shiroli is a 13 km medium difficulty trek and takes 5-6 hours. Boarding facilities are available and these treks begin from Kulgi Nature Camp.

There is only one trip organized by the forest department at 6 AM every day to Kavala Caves. The guided tour starts with a ride into the gated forest reserve. A 3-4 km downhill walk and 350 steps down will take you to the caves. Visitors can take a private four-wheeled vehicle inside the sanctuary or rent a jeep, which is the preferred mode of transport here due to the undeveloped roads.

Trekkers are required to pay for the permit and guide fees at the Kulgi Nature. Be careful to wear full boots, as leeches are a big trouble during monsoon and winter months. Besides the day long trekking routes there are also a few short birding trails around the camp.

Entry fee: Rs. 40 per person, Trek fee: Rs. 475 per person, Guide fee: Rs. 500 per group.
