At a distance of 14 Km from Devgad, and 43 Km from Malvan, Kunkeshwar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in Kunkeshwar village near Malvan, Maharashtra. It is one of the famous pilgrimage sites in Maharashtra, and among the must-include places in Malvan packages.

Kunkeshwar is primarily recognized for its historic Kunkeshwar Temple, which is situated directly on the Arabian Sea's coastline. This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is believed to be more than 1,000 years old. Locals revere Lord Shiva here as Kunakeshwar, or the God of the Sea, highlighting the temple's profound spiritual ties to the area. Affectionately referred to as the Kashi of South Konkan, the Kunakeshwar Temple serves as a vital cultural and religious site.

According to local legends, the original temple was constructed to honor a self-originated Shiv Lingam discovered near the beach. In the 12th century, the Yadav Kings of the Sevuna dynasty erected this grand temple in the Hemadpanti architectural style. Subsequently, it was reconstructed by the illustrious Maratha warrior, Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, during his rule. Local folklore suggests that an Arabian/Iranian trader initially built this temple, only to take his own life from its summit out of fear of rejection from his faith in Islam.

This stunning temple features captivating architecture reminiscent of South Indian temple design. It is constructed from Laterite or Chira stone. The Kunkeshwar temple complex comprises two temples: the main temple and a smaller Nandi temple. The main temple is a substantial edifice housing a Shivalingam in its sanctum sanctorum. The Nandi temple, located at the hill's base, contains a statue of Nandi, the mount of Lord Shiva. Additionally, the complex includes several smaller shrines and statues of various deities. A mid-sized stone deepstamb is also positioned at the front of the temple's main entrance.
