Winter Season :

Winter is the most pleasant season in Ooty. The temperature can go as low as 10°C in winters. Monsoon rains bring a fresh breath to the forests of Ooty and the lakes and waterfalls are at their fullest form during this season. Winter lasts from the months of October to February, January being the coldest month. The days can be cool while the nights are cold and woollens are a must when visiting Ooty in winter. Little showers of rain during the winter makes the weather very romantic. During this time, the Department of Tourism in Tamil Nadu hosts The Tea and Tourism Festival for three days. Dasara & New Year holiday seasons attract a considerable number of tourists and hotels are usually expensive during this season.


Summer Season :

The summer months in Ooty are from March to September. Summer temperature in Ooty is usually around 28°C and experiences pleasant weather. This is the prime tourist season in Ooty and a large number of tourists from different parts of South India head to this beautiful destination to escape the scorching heat of the plains and to spend some quality time with their family and friends. This is also the time to witness the annual Ooty Summer Festival where one can partake in activities like flower shows, fruit shows, and boat races. Hotels are also usually expensive during summer and advance booking at least a month ahead is suggested to plan a hassle-free summer vacation in Ooty. If you do not mind the crowd, summer is also a good season to visit Ooty.


Monsoon Season :

Ooty receives an average rainfall of about 121cm during the monsoons. The monsoon starts early in the month of June and lasts till September. Heavy rainfall is the characteristic of the season which can block the roads. However, the surroundings are at its greenest and the hills are busted with colorful flowers during monsoon. This is a lean season and ideal for those tourists looking for bargains and who want to spend some time away from the tourist crowd. But this time is not favorable for trekking.
