This is the best season for sightseeing, camping and adventure activities and also the perfect time for honeymooners to enjoy the scenic beauty in serenity. Though summer is also a good season to visit Wayanad, it is usually very crowded with tourists. Summer is also the best time to explore the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary but the tickets for Safari are issued at Forest office situated on the main road. There is no advance booking for safari and the tickets are issued on a first come first serve basis.

Winter Season :

Wayanad has a pleasant weather throughout the year and is one of the popular Kerala Tourism destinations. Cool winds increase the intensity of cold during winter in Wayanad. The temperature can go as low as 15°C in winters. The climate is perfect for exploring the nature reserves, go sightseeing, bird watching or to explore the wildlife. Edakkal Caves, Soochippara Waterfalls, Chain Tree, Chembra Peak, Thirunelli Temple and Neelimala View Point are some attractions which you can visit during the winter season. Also, Wayanad is famous for Tea and Coffee plantations. Easter, Christmas and New Year are some of the festivals celebrated in the district with great enthusiasm during winters. December, January and February are the peak winter months attract considerable number of tourists and hotels are usually expensive during this season.


Summer Season :

Summer temperature in Wayanad is usually around 34°C and though pleasant, summers in Wayanad are little humid. The peak afternoons are often avoided during this season whereas the mornings and evenings are much preferred for sightseeing. The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, the Coffee, Tea, Rubber and Pepper Plantations are some of the attractions that must not be missed when visiting during the season. Large number of tourists from different parts of South India head to Coorg to spend few days of their summer vacation. Summer is the busiest season in Wayanad and hotels are also usually expensive during summer and advance booking at least a month ahead is recommended to plan a hassle free summer vacation in Wayanad. Also, one can witness the authentic celebrations of summer festivals, Mahashivratri and Thirunelli during this season in Wayanad. If you do not mind the crowd, summer is also a good season to visit Wayanad.


Monsoon Season :

Monsoon season can witness heavy rains in Wayanad region. The hill station especially looks greener and fresher in the season but is not always recommended to tourists because of the substantial amount of rain it receives. Landslides and thunderstorms, accompanied with heavy rainfall, are common during this season. Also, the safari in Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (Muthunga) is usually cancelled during rains and not suggested to try during this time. Besides, one can witness some important festivals like the day of birth of Lord Krishna, Ashtami Rohini celebrated in August/ September. So, Monsoon is not an ideal time to visit Wayanad but if you would like to just relax in a tea estate watching the beautiful landscapes, it is still a good time.
