At a distance of 8 km from Trivandrum Central Railway Station, Thiruvallam is a popular Kerala backwater destinations, and among the must-include places in Trivandrum packages.

Thiruvallam backwaters are situated between the two large rivers Karanama and Killi. The calm atmosphere and the untouched natural beauty of the backwaters are simply fabulous. The tourists spend peaceful time on the Kettuvallams or houseboats. It is one of the famous Trivandrum tourist attractions.

Another important attraction of the Thiruvallam backwaters is the popular temple of sage Parashurama which holds a special place in the heart of Kerala's people. Situated on the banks of the Karamana River, it is the only temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Parasurama. It says that the temple was built during the 12th and 13th centuries, the late Pandyan period. The temple is considered a protected monument by the Archaeology Department of Kerala.
