At a distance of 40 km from Kanyakumari, 21 km from Nagercoil, 74 km from Trivandrum, 85 km from Tirunelveli & 691 km from Chennai, Olakkay Aruvi or Ulakkai Aruvi Waterfalls is a wonderful waterfall located near Azhagiapandipuram in Kanyakumari district of Tamilnadu. Located within the limits of Kalakkad Wildlife Sanctuary, Ulakkai Aruvi is one of the best waterfalls in Kanyakumari and also one of the popular places to visit near Tirunelveli.

Also known as Rod Falls, Ulakkai Aruvi Falls is a mesmerizing waterfall formed over Pazhayar River. Ulakkai meaning Pestle and Aruvi meaning Falls in Tamil. This falls looks like a Pestle from long distance, hence the name Ulakkai Aruvi. Even as the surrounding water sources and forests dry up in the sweltering summers, the water still keeps flowing from this natural waterfall. Many tourists come here for bathing and to enjoy the nature.

There are two falls, the lower falls and the higher falls. Both are falling from a height of about 50 feet. The lower falls, one reaches after the trek is a good picnic spot. The view from this spot of the greenery below the hills is exhilarating. To reach the Higher falls, one needs to climb about 200 meters uphill and is recommended only for healthy people. Ulakkai Aruvi is a good picnic spot and good for trekking. This is the right place for the people who love climbing rocks and hills.

The falls is situated in the middle of thick Western Ghats, which is accessible only by foot from the base of the hills. The nearest road point to the falls is at Perunthalaikadu village, which is about 3 km from Azhagiapandipuram. From Perunthalaikadu village, visitors need to walk about 2 km through bumpy & hilly path inside the forest to reach this lovely falls. Azhagiapandipuram is connected by buses from Nagercoil town.

The best season to visit this fall is after monsoon.
