At a distance of 1.5 km from Chanderi Bus Station, Jama Masjid is an ancient mosque located in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh. Situated opposite to Badal Mahal Gate, it is one of the beautiful places to visit during your Chanderi tour.

Jama Masjid was built in the 13th century by Ghiassudin Balban and is one of the most important and popular places to visit in Chanderi. The mosque was built when Chanderi came under the rule of the Delhi Sultanate under Ghiasuddin Balban. It is the oldest and the largest mosque in the entire Bundelkhand where almost 2000 persons can offer their prayers. The architecture of this place inside as well as the exteriors and the detailings on the gate is something to die for.

The entrance gate of the mosque is elaborately decorated with leaf ornaments and floral and geometrical patterns. But this gateway is not the original part of the mosque but has been brought from the ruined fort of Tamarpura. There is a huge courtyard as soon as one enters the gate. The courtyard has passageways on both sides. Beautiful serpentine brackets support the eaves of the passageways which are characteristic of monuments built in Chanderi during that time.

Within the courtyard, there is a pond that was used by the people to wash their hands and feet before offering namaz. But now, it is dry and no longer in use. Beyond the courtyard, there is the main hall which is roofed with three large domes. The mono-colour building with small embellishments, open arches, and delicate additions, adds to the minimalist grace of the mosque. The highlight of the place is the plaque with the name of 'Dilawar Khan Ghori' that belonged to the site of ruins at Tamarpura.
