Waterfall

At a distance of 59 km from Trivandrum, Aruvi Waterfall is a picturesque waterfall located near Bonacaud Estate in the Trivandrum district of Kerala. It is one of the popular waterfalls near Trivandrum.

The Aruvi waterfall is located in the thick forest of Peppara Forest Range. The crystal clear water cascades down the hill at a height of 4 feet. As this waterfall lies between hills and dense forest, the view of the waterfall is breathtaking. The area has been isolated and this nature's beauty is not much disturbed.

The nearest road point to the waterfalls is Bonecaud Estate. The falls can be reached by a 7 km trek from Bonacaud. From here, the visitors will be guided by the Kanni tribal men through the mountains. Good physical fitness is required to finish this trek. Prior forest pass from the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is required to enter the forest (Ph: 0471-2272182). They can also arrange guided tours with an overnight stay at a camp inside the forest.

Bonacaud is accessible by few buses from Trivandrum. The best way to reach Bonacaud is by own vehicle or hiring a cab from Trivandrum.

At a distance of 26 km from Pathanamthitta, Perunthenaruvi Waterfall is a wonderful waterfall situated at Vechoochira village in Kerala. It is one of the famous Pathanamthitta sightseeing places, and among the major waterfalls near Trivandrum.

Situated in the forest region of Sabarimala, Perunthenaruvi allures tourists with its breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls and the dazzling stream that flows to merge with the sacred Pamba River. The locality is the home field of beehives which have bestowed the place with the title Perunthenaruvi meaning 'The Honey Stream'.

There are two waterfalls at Perunthenaruvi - the 300 feet Panamkudantha and the 200 feet Padivathil - both of these originate from the dense woods of Sabarimala. The stream gushes further beyond through the rocky bed to unite with the holy Pamba. This is a wonderful place to spend few hours swimming and playing in the water and enjoying the spectacular views.

The main route to this waterfall starts from Ranni - Athikkayam - Kudamurutty - Perunthenaruvi. It is connected by bus service with Pathanamthitta. It is close to the main road and demands 20 minutes of trekking to reach the place.

This is an unexplored waterfall located in thick forest. This little waterfall is a nice place to spend few hours.

This waterfall is little close to the road from Kottangal towards SH8 (Kozhencherry - Erattupetta). It demands little trekking from the road. Kottangal is connected by few buses from Mallappally (which is 32 Kms from Pathanamthitta via Kozhencheery and Eraviperoor). However, hiring a private vehicle from Pathanamthitta or Ranni (20 Kms) is a good option.

At a distance of 61 km from Kottayam, Valanjaganam Waterfall, locally known as Ninnumullipara, is a scenic waterfall located at Kuttikkanam in Kerala. It is one of the stunning waterfalls in Kerala, and among the most popular Kottayam tourist places.

Valanjaganam Waterfall lies on the Kottayam-Kumily state highway, about 4 km from Kuttikkanam towards Thekkady/Periyar. Also known as Kesari Waterfalls, this waterfall is probably one of the most easily accessible ones in Kerala, which is why many tourists often flock to it each year. It is an ideal spot to stop and take a quick stretch and relax during tiring journeys during your Kottayam trip.

A flight of steps takes you down to where the waterfall ends. There are a few shops near the waterfall, people were stopping by for a hot cup of tea and snacks. Be a little careful while driving here because people seem to zooming on along the curve and suddenly breaking when they see the waterfall.

Regular buses are available between Kottayam and Thekkady/Periyar. September to January is the best time to visit the falls. The falls are located just adjacent to the highway and no trekking is required to reach the falls.

There are nine waterfalls at Courtallam where the River Chittar cascades over 92 meters at varying volumes. At a distance of 13 km from Pechiparai Dam, 50 km from Kanyakumari, & 51 km from Trivandrum, Thirparappu Falls is an artificial waterfall situated at Thirparappu near Kanyakumari. It is one of the Kanyakumari tourist places.

The Kodayar River makes its descend at Thiruparappu and forms this wonderful waterfall. The river bed is rocky and about 300 feet in length. Descending from a height of about 50 feet, the spectacular falls mystifies the environment with its gushing waters. It is essentially a mix of multiple streams of water flowing from the top to form a majestic water pool at the bottom.

A swimming pool has been constructed for children over here and is a safe place for swimming. There are paddle boats available on rent for boating in the vicinity of the Falls. Mahadeva Temple dedicated to Siva enclosed by strong fortification is very close to the waterfalls and it's one of the important Siva temples in the Kanyakumari district.

At a distance of 4 km from Courtallam Main Falls, 4 km from Courtallam Bus Station and 11 km from Tenkasi, Five Falls or Aintharuvi is another important waterfall in Courtallam. After the main falls, this is the most famous waterfall and the most enjoyable of all falls here.

The water here splits into five branches while falling, so it is called Five Falls. It is unique as water flows in five directions, resembling a 5-headed cobra. It is highly revered among locals as they compare it to Adishesha. Among the five falls, three are open to men and two for women. There is a Swami Ayyappa Temple and Vinayaka Temple close to waterfall. Bathing here is very safe and enjoyable activity. There is also an Eco Park and boat house nearby.

Road access is available close to the falls and about 100 meters walk is required from the parking area to reach the falls.

Fruit Garden Falls or Pazhathotta Aruvi is situated above the Five Falls. This small falls set amidst deep forest range. It is popularly known as VIP Falls or Orchard Falls as only politicians and bureaucrats are allowed to bath in waters here. Others need to seek permission from the Tourism Board for bathing at the Pazhathotta Aruvi.

At a distance of 8 km from Main Falls, 8 km from Courtallam Bus Station and 11 km from Tenkasi, Pazhaya Courtallaruvi or Old Courtallam is also known as Shivamathungai Falls.

The 200 ft fall features steps that are cut out into the rocks for breaking flow of the cascading water to make it safe for bathing. The water flows through two rocks and drop into the valley to form this waterfall. Along with separate bathing areas for men and women, tourists can engage themselves in oil massages. Bathing here is safe and is a popular activity.

Road access is available close to the falls and about 100 meters walk is needed to reach the falls from parking area.

Tiger Falls or Puli Aruvi is situated 2 km from Courtallam bus stand. It is situated between the Main Falls and Old Courtallam. This artificial falls has a moderate flow of water which is collected into a lake and is diverted for irrigation. This falls is situated inside a private property. There is a Sastha Temple and a Bathing Ghat for pilgrims. It is a perfect and safe place for children to enjoy. There is also an old palace, now a private property.
