Dabbe Falls - History, Timings & Entry Fee

At a distance of 40 km from Jog Falls, and 139 km from Shimoga, Dabbe Falls is a waterfall located at Dabbe or Dhombe village in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district in Karnataka. Situated on Bhatkal - Siddapura Highway, it is one of the many beautiful waterfalls near Shimoga, and among the scenic Jog Falls tourist places.

Nestled within the lush green folds of Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary, Dabbe Falls is a hidden gem in the Shimoga region of Karnataka. The height of the waterfall is about 110 m and is a stepped waterfall, where a pool in each step overfills and flows down to another one below it hence the name Dabbe Fall where 'dabbe' means 'steps' in the native language. The waterfall is also known as Kepjoga in the native language as it makes a lot of sound while gushing down the rocks.

This is a picture-perfect waterfall that is immersed in nature and it is bound to sweep any one of their feet with its beauty. Moreover, as this place is tucked deep inside the jungles of Western Ghats, one has to trek through muddy terrains, dense forests, paddy fields, crossing many streams, and descending steep cliffs to reach the falls. When you are at the bottom of the falls, jump into the huge pool formed by the waterfall and enjoy a good swim. The cold and clean water of the falls can leave you refreshed and rejuvenated. This waterfall is also a good place for clicking photographs.

The waterfall can be reached only by trekking through the dense forest from Dabbe village. The trek covers a distance of about 7 to 9 km. The trail is as beautiful as it is challenging. The last one kilometer of the trek is especially challenging as the trail is a descent that is inclined to almost 80 degrees at some places and there are no proper steps or stairs to place the foot on while negotiating the risky path. The branches and roots of trees and the rocks are the only help available in that part of the trek.
