At a distance of 2 Kms from Palakkad Railway Station, Vadakkanthara Devi Temple is located on the way to Jainmedu.

The presiding deity here is Devi, an incarnation of Kannagi, the heroine of Tamil epic Silappadhikaram. This centuries old temple is believed to be committed by Parasurama. It has marvelous wood carvings. In the evening, sharp at six, a small firework is set off as per the tradition (which can be witnessed in most of the other Kerala temples as well).

This Temple was demolished and looted by Tippu Sultan, the son of Hyder Ali during his reign at Palakkad Fort.
