At a distance of 42 Kms from Coimbatore Railway Station, Avanashi Lingeswarar Temple (also called as Avanashiappar Temple) is located in Avanashi town on NH47.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this is one of the celebrated Shaivite temples in this region. Dating back to the 15th century, this temple believed to be built by Sundarapandiya. Cholas, Pandyas and the Hoysalas have also contrinuted largely. The temple has some exquisite stone carvings and inscriptions. There is a separate shrine for Goddess Karunambika near main sanctum. It is believed that worshipping the scorpion sculpted behind the Goddess, one will get relief from the fear of poisonous bites, bad dreams etc. This temple is protected by the Archeological survey of India.

The 12 day long Brahmotsavam held in the month of April/May. The temple's car is known for its fine wooden carvings and it is one of the biggest cars in South. Avanashi is connected by frequent buses from Coimbatore.
