This is a part of the Baba Budangiri Hills in the Western Ghats and gets its name from the tomb of Mullappa Swamy at the summit. Yedakumeri is a beautiful place in the Western Ghats and among the best places to visit in Sakleshpur. Also called Sakleshpur Railway Trek, it is a 20 km trek along the railway line that ends at Yedakumari railway station which takes around 7 hours to complete. The trek route has several curves, tunnels, and bridges. One can spot several waterfalls, a rail girder bridge, and tunnels during the trek. Trekking along the abandoned meter-gauge railway line is a unique experience and is popularly referred to as ‘Yedakumeri Railway Trek’ or ‘Green Route Trek’. Perched at an altitude of 1894m, Kudremukh is one of the highest peaks of Western Ghats and among the top places for trekking near Bangalore. The peak gets its name owing to its unique shape of the peak which resembles the face of a Horse. This 9 km trail starts at the Mullodi Forest office and takes around 4 to 5 hours to complete. The trek passes through forests, grasslands, and several waterfalls. The peak is part of the Kudremukh National Park, among the top places to visit in Sringeri. One can spot spotted deer, lion-tailed macaque, Malabar giant squirrel, leopard, peacock, and common langur among several other species here. Camping is not allowed anywhere on the trail as the national park is home to several rare species of flora and fauna. Only 50 persons are allowed per day, and permission from RFO at Kudremukh town is mandatory.
