Kempty Falls was developed as a tourist destination by a British officer John Mekinan, around 1835. The name of the place is derived from Camp-tea, the place where Britishers organized tea parties during colonial period.

Tourists like to enjoy the refreshing bath under fall and one can also enjoy boating in the nearby man-made pond. Several shops are there to serve food and other eatables. The Falls are a good place for picnic or for spending a couple of hours in the midst of the Greenery which cover the surroundings of the Kempty Falls.

Another 12 km down the Hill, the waters of the Kempty reach the legendary waters of Yamuna River. Fishing is very popular at the merging point. However, permits are to be taken from Divisional Forest Officer, Mussoorie, before fishing at Yamuna River merging point.
