Papanasini - History, Timings & Entry Fee

At a distance of 46 Kms from Kalpetta & 23 kms from Mananthavady, Papanasini is a holy mountain stream located near Thirunelly Temple (1 Km). It is believed that a ritual dip in the sacred water of the stream would wash off all the sins.

There is an interesting tale behind the stream attaining the power of Papanasini. When Garuda (the eagle vehicle of Lord Vishnu) was flying with Amrita Kumba, Brahma was in the process of consecrating Vishnu's idol at Thirunelly Temple. Garuda noticed it and circled over the ceremony and dropped few drops of Amrita into the stream and the stream attained purifying power.
