At a distance of 25 km from Madikeri, Mandalpatti is a spectacular vantage point situated at Mandalpatti, Karnataka. It is one of the popular viewpoints in Coorg and among the must-visit places for nature lovers during their Coorg Trip.

Amidst the lap of nature, Mandalpatti has recently become popular amongst tourists as the place is away from the hustle and bustle of city life and offers some seclusion and calmness. The viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the city and its surrounding plains. The colors of sunrays during sunset were magnificent with sprinklers of rainfall in the sky. Trekking is an easily available option for adventure seekers at this point. The name Mandalpatti translates into head amidst the clouds or head touching the clouds owing to its elevation.

Trekking to Mandalpatti Viewpoint

Visitors can drive up to a checkpoint within the forest and from there one needs to cover 3 km by trekking to reach the top. The trek elevation is about 200 m high, and it will be a challenging one. This is because the winds in this region are quite harsh and may tempt you to return from the mid-way. However, every effort to reach the top position is worth all the efforts that you invest in. It is better to equip oneself with all the required materials before starting the trek as there are no shops. Thus even basic items like water and food need to be carried.

Jeep Ride to Mandalpatti Viewpoint

Mandalpatti is especially famous for its 4x4 jeep riding adventure. The Forest Department here encourages all visitors to undertake this 4x4 jeep riding experience. This is surely an engaging experience for you as your jeep will be trespassing the coffee plantations and comprehensive forest covers that are laid down mid-way. The Jeep Ride cost INR 1700 per jeep.

Best Time to Visit Mandalpatti Viewpoint

It is best avoided during monsoons, as trekking or travelling uphill in the rainy season can be accident-prone and risky. The ideal time to visit the place is during the summer (March- June) given that the cool breeze atop the hill is soothing and refreshing. If one loves the cold mountain weather, winters are also an ideal time to visit the hill station when the place is generally covered with mist but Mandalpatti promises a captivating scenic and refreshing atmosphere.

How to Reach Mandalpatti Viewpoint

As the bus facility is not available yet taking a cab or your own vehicle is advised from Madikeri to Mandalpatti. One can drive to a certain checkpoint within the forest and cover the rest of 3 km by trekking. It takes only 30 minutes to reach the top not so high and after reaching the top there is a watch tower from there you can see Mandalpatti hills and a very good view of Mandalpatti town. One can also avail of the jeep from the base point of Mandalpatti.
