At a distance of 28 km from Madikeri, Valanoor, also known as Vaalnuru is a small and pleasant hamlet situated near Dubare in Coorg, Karnataka. The place is a picturesque location with the forest on one side and the river Cauvery flowing through it.

Valanoor is a popular fishing destination on the backwaters of Cauvery and is one of the most popular angling sites in Karnataka. The Kaveri River is shallow and slow moving at many places and that helps in the growth of abundant aquatic life in the water. It is a popular place among angling enthusiasts as a wide variety of fish are available here including golden mahaseer and maral which are found in plenty. Angling at Valanoor is one of the top things to do in Coorg and it draws fishing lovers from all over Karnataka.

Valanoor fishing camp is the best place for the enthusiasts to check their fishing skills. Mornings would be the ideal time for fishing. Apart from fishing the view of the sunset is just awesome. Valanoor is also a haven for birdwatchers.

Permits for fishing need to be obtained in advance from the Coorg Wildlife authorities to enjoy angling in the waters of Cauvery in Valanoor. Most home stays and plantation stays assist their guests in obtaining these permits. Visitors are advised to carry their own fishing equipment and must be careful about their own safety while fishing in the water as no safety measure exists there.
