Moti Masjid / Jama Masjid - History, Timings & Entry Fee

At a distance of 4 km from Bhopal Junction, Moti Masjid is a religious place located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Situated near Gauhar Mahal, it is one of the significant mosques in Bhopal, and among the important places to visit in Bhopal.

Often called the city of mosques, Bhopal is home to several historical mosques and monuments within its walls. One such mosque is the Moti Masjid built by Sikander Jehan Begum of Bhopal, the daughter of Qudsiya Begum in the year 1860. Though relatively smaller in size, it is an important historical landmark in Bhopal. The mosque is located in the heart of the city and represents the rich history of the Bhopal Begums in India.

The architectural design of the Moti Masjid has a striking resemblance to the famous Jama Masjid in Delhi. It features a white marble facade with two small cupolas on the top. Moti Masjid translates to 'the pearl mosque', so named because of the shimmering white facade of the building. The two dark red towers on either side of the primary structure of the mosque are equally beautiful and fascinating. The mosque stands on a raised plinth and its courtyard affords a stunning view of the Bhopal city.

The mosque can be best visited in the early morning hours when there are fewer people, and one can pray in silence and peace. A typical visit to the Moti Masjid lasts for about an hour or so, and the excursion can be coupled with a visit to nearby attractions like Shaukat Mahal, Van Vihar National Park, Lower Lake, or Birla Museum.
