At a distance of 14 Kms from Kollam Railway Station, Kottankulangara Devi Temple is located in Chavara. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Devi, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati.

Kottankulangara Chamayavillanku is a famous festival celebrated at this temple celebrated in Mar / Apr. This festival is also referred to as Thalappoli Mahosthavam. Hundreds of men dress up like females, as part of offerings to the goddess. There is a unique ritual called 'Chamaya Vilakku' where a group of young women come to the temple at night in a long procession with lighted lamps in their hands.
