At a distance of 26 Kms from Kollam, Munroe Island is a beautiful island formed by the backwaters of Ashtamudi Lake & Kallada River. This island is named after Colonel Munroe, the British resident of Travancore State, who helped in integrating several backwater regions of Kerala by forming canals.

The discovery of Stone Age tools made this place an important historical destination in this region. The canals are used for local transport. Munroe Island is connected with Pattomthuruthu & Pezhumthuruthu Islands by boat. DTPC operate boat cruises to the island twice a day at 9 AM & 2 PM.
