At a distance of 1 Km from Madikeri Bus Stand, the General Thimmaiah Museum is a museum situated in the heart of Madikeri town in the Coorg district of Karnataka. It is one among the new tourist places in Coorg that attract travelers from far and wide throughout the year.

The General Thimmaiah Museum serves as a homage to Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa and General K.S. Thimmaiah, who are among India's most esteemed military figures. The residence of General K.S. Thimayya, known as The Sunny Side, has been transformed into the General Thimayya Memorial Museum, and was inaugurated in 2021 by President Ram Nath Kovind. The main purpose is to highlight the life and accomplishments of Thimayya.

Spanning 2.6 acres, this museum provides visitors with insights into the life and achievements of General Thimmaiah, a pivotal figure in the development of India's military history. The war memorial features his personal artifacts, wartime memorabilia, rare photographs, and the inspiring narrative of a Kodava leader whose guidance influenced India's military strength post-independence.

Guests can view exhibits of historical uniforms, medals, weapons, and detailed descriptions of his military operations. The war memorial also contains various ancient arms and war relics, including a cannon and a retired MiG-21 fighter jet. A major highlight of the museum is its recreation of battle scenes and interactive displays that illustrate key events in Indian military history. Additionally, the museum includes a section dedicated to the Indian Armed Forces, showcasing the progression of military tactics and the contributions of Coorg's valiant warriors.

A war tank positioned at the entrance of The Sunny Side serves as a focal point of interest. This war tank was transported to Madikeri from the Army Training Centre in Pune. The MiG-21, a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft, is another significant attraction within the museum grounds. The MiG-21 displayed at The Sunny Side played a crucial role during the India-Pakistan war of 1971.
