At a distance of 2 Km from Kamalapur Bus Stand, and 3 Km from Hampi Bus Stand, the Yellamma Temple, or Ellamma Temple is Hindu temple situated near Ranga Temple in the Royal Center of Hampi. It is one of the sacred temples to visit in Hampi.

Also referred to as Pattanada Yellamma, the Yellamma Temple is dedicated to the guardian deity of the Vijayanagara city, goddess Yellamma. The temple continues to be actively worshipped, just as it was during the era of the Vijayanagara capital. The formidable nature of this goddess is evident from the arms and attire intricately carved onto the idol. The four-armed deity is depicted in a seated position, wielding weapons such as a sword, trident, a small drum, and a skull bowl.

It is believed that the rulers of Vijayanagara Kingdom were belongs to the ancient Kuruba community, which translates to 'warrior.' This clan has historically worshipped goddess Yellamma. Even today, the priests serving at this temple belong to this community. Despite being a modest shrine, this temple likely received patronage from the Vijayanagara kings, as suggested by its location near the heart of the otherwise lavish royal district. Notably, this temple is one of the few in India that has a priestess rather than a priest. The majority of visitors to this temple are local women.

Now situated below ground level, this temple is certainly worth a visit. A narrow path leading northeast from the Hazara Rama Temple will guide you to the Yellamma Temple. Approximately 200 meters from the Hazara Rama Temple lies the tree-filled courtyard of the temple. Along the way, you will pass the Pan Supari Bazar.
