At a distance of 500 m from Rumtek Monastery and 21 km from Gangtok SNT Bus Station, Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is a public garden located in Gangtok. Situated close to Rumtek Monastery, it is one of the most famous tourist places to visit in Gangtok.

Established in the year 1987, Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is a well maintained lush green expanse of land with astounding beauty. The garden is maintained and managed by the Parks and Garden Units of the Forest Department of the Government of Sikkim. The garden houses rare flowers, plants and trees including Orchids of Himalayan region. It also has dense temperate forests of Oak and a beautiful lake.

There are more than 50 different varieties of tree species located inside this garden. Owing to the variance in altitude ranging between 1,800 m and 2,200 m, the park has a wide assortment of plants and animals. The garden also has a greenhouse, where different types of orchids are grown. With the intention of merriment for kids, a small recreational space has been made in the company of merry-go-round, swings and see-saws.

The hilltop of Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Park offers an astounding view of the bustling town of Gangtok along with astounding figure of the majestic snowcapped Himalayan Mountains. Moreover, the serene nature and the calm and pleasant weather make it the finest spot for spending some quality time with your near and dear ones. It can be visited along with the famous Rumtek Monastery.

The best time to visit Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is considered between the months of March to late May when the garden is bursting with the vibrant color of blooming flowers and from October to Mid-December to catch an unparalleled view of surrounding valleys and snowcapped mountains.
