Srisailam is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva situated on the banks of River Krishna in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the most important Shaiva pilgrimage centers in India and also one of the top temples in Andhra Pradesh. Srisailam is also one of the most popular places to visit near Hyderabad. The sanctum enshrines Lord Mallikarjuna in the form of a linga protected by a three-hooded cobra. Annavaram is a village located along the banks of the Pampa River in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, renowned for the illustrious Sri Satyanarayana Swami Temple. It is believed that performing the Satyanarayana Vratam here fulfills the wishes of devotees. The Annavaram Temple was built in the Dravidian architectural style in 1891 by Raja Ramanarayana, who was the zamindar of the Gorsa and Kirlampudi estates. The temple underwent reconstruction in the years 1933-34 and again in 2011-2012. Perched atop Ratnagiri hill, the main temple is designed in the shape of a chariot, featuring four wheels at each corner. The temple comprises two levels; the ground floor houses the yantra and the peetham of the Lord. On the first floor, the idol of Lord Satyanarayana Swami is centrally positioned, with the image of Goddess Anantha Lakshmi to his right and Lord Shiva to his left. Situated in the suburb of Visakhapatnam City, Simhadri, also known as Simhachalam, is a famed Hindu pilgrimage site in Andhra Pradesh. The Simhachalam Varaha Narasimha Swami Temple is dedicated to Narasimha Swami, an avatar of Vishnu, and is recognized as one of the eighteen Narasimha Kshetras across India. It is believed that the temple was built in 1098 by Kulothunga Chola. The queen of Kalinga presented golden armor to the statue. Simhachalam Temple ranks among the wealthiest temples in Andhra Pradesh and is one of the prominent pilgrimage sites near Vizag. The architectural design of the central shrine is influenced by the Kalinga style. The deity is consistently covered with sandal paste. The true form of the deity is depicted in the tribhanga posture, possessing two hands and the head of a lion, which is only visible during the ‘Chandanotsavam’ festival in April or May. According to legend, the Ugra form of Narasimha, who vanquished the demon Hiranyakashipu, was so formidable that the image remains covered with sandal paste throughout the year.

Ahobilam, also known as Ahobalam, serves as a significant pilgrimage destination in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. It is revered as the sacred residence of Lord Narasimha, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the form of a man-lion. According to tradition, this is the site where Lord Narasimha vanquished Hiranyakasipu and rescued Prahalada. Nestled within the dense Nallamala Forest, the Ahobilam Temple is recognized as one of the 108 Divya Desams. Although the original temples were constructed by the Chalukyas in the 8th century, the majority of the existing structures were renovated by the Vijayanagara kings in the 15th century. This location is also referred to as Nava Narasimha Kshetra, as Lord Narasimha is venerated in nine distinct forms, which include Jwala Narasimha, Ahobila Narasimha, Malola Narasimha, Kroda Narasimha, Kaaranja Narasimha, Bhargava Narasimha, Yaogananda Narasimha, Chathravata Narasimha, and Paavana Narasimha. Separate temples dedicated to each of these forms are located within a 5 km radius of the main Ahobilam Temple. Among these nine shrines, the Yogananda, Chathravata, and Bhargava Narasimha swami temples are found in Lower Ahobilam, while the other six are situated in Upper Ahobilam. Additionally, there is another temple dedicated to Lord Narasimha Swami in the Lower Ahobilam Temple, where it is believed that the idol of the Lord was installed by Lord Venkateswara of Tirupati.

Yaganti, located in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, is renowned for the Sri Yagantiswami Temple. Also known as the Uma Maheshwara Temple, this Shiva temple dates back to the 5th and 6th centuries, with contributions from the Pallavas, Cholas, Chalukyas, and Vijayanagara rulers. The temple saw significant contributions from the Vijayanagara Kings Harihara and Bukka Rayalu, who completed the construction of various structures in and around the temple. The Uma Maheshwara Temple at Yaganti features the idol of Ardhanareeswara, which is intricately carved from a single stone. This site is likely the only location where Lord Shiva is worshipped in idol form rather than as a Shiva Linga. It is said that Sage Agastya meditated at this site and implored Shiva to manifest in the form of Ardhanareeswara, which is venerated here. Another distinctive aspect of the temple is the Nandi statue, which has been increasing in size over time. There are several natural caves, including Venkateswara Cave, Sankara Cave, and Agasthya Cave, which served as abodes for numerous saints. A remarkable feature of this temple is its Pushkarini, which contains exceptionally pure water. The source of the water flowing into the Pushkarini throughout the seasons remains a mystery. Mahanandi

Mahanandi is a revered pilgrimage site for Shiva devotees, situated in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Within a 15 km radius of Mahanandi, there are nine Nandis (Bulls) collectively referred to as the Nava Nandis, which include Mahanandi, Shivanandi, Vinayakanandi, Somanandi, Prathamanandi, Garudanandi, Suryanandi, Krishnanandi, and Naganandi. Mahanandi is renowned for the Mahanandiswara Temple, the principal shrine among the Nava Nandis, and is recognized as one of the prominent pilgrimage destinations near Hyderabad. The temple is believed to have been constructed by the Chalukyas in the 7th century and was subsequently enhanced by the local Nanda dynasty in the 10th century and the Vijayanagara Kings in the 15th century. Within the Mahanandi Temple grounds, there are three pools; two are located outside the temple, while the third, known as Rudragundam, is situated within the temple premises and features a continuous water flow originating from the basement of the garbhagriha, where the main deity (Shiva Ling) is enshrined. Devotees are permitted to offer prayers to the Shiva Linga and touch the water beneath the Lingam in the main sanctum. A large Nandi statue is positioned outside the Mahanandishwara Temple. Mantralayam, also referred to as Manchale, is located in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. This town is closely linked to the renowned saint Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy, who lived from 1595 to 1671. Mantralayam lies near the border of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, alongside the banks of the Tungabhadra River, a significant tributary of the Krishna River. The Samadhi Temple, also known as Brundavan, is the site where the Vaishnava saint Sri Guru Raghavendra attained Jeeva Samadhi (tomb). The main shrine is housed within a large structure in the expansive temple complex. Devotees of the saint regard him as an incarnation of Bhakta Prahallada, who was rescued by Vishnu in the form of Narasimha. Sri Raghavendra Swamy is believed to have performed numerous miracles during his lifetime and continues to have a substantial following today. Additionally, Mantralayam is well-known for the Manchalamma Temple, which is situated near the Samadhi Temple within the Mantralayam Mutt complex. Lepakshi is a small village in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. Lepakshi was founded in the 16th century during the reign of the Vijayanagara king, Aliiya Rama Raya. Virupanna, the royal treasurer was accused of drawing funds without the king’s permission from the state treasury to build the Veerabhadra temple at Lepakshi. However, he blinded himself to avoid the king’s punishment. Lepakshi is one of the important heritage sites in Andhra Pradesh and also one of the popular pilgrimage places in Andhra. Lepakshi is the centre of some of the finest temple architecture and paintings. Lepakshi consists of three important shrines dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Veerabhadra, of which the Veerabhadra temple is the most important place to visit in Lepakshi (this is also referred as Lepakshi Temple). The Lepakshi Temple was built on a low altitude hillock which is in the shape of a tortoise and hence known as Kurma Saila. The Vijayanagar-style temple has several wonderful paintings on the ceiling. The hanging pillar supported from the top is a surprise for the visitors. To the south of the main shrine is a huge Nagalingam, standing on a granite block, shrouded by a seven-headed cobra, magnificently carved out of single rock. The monolithic Lepakshi Nandi village is another attraction. The handicrafts of Lepakshi are also quite popular among women all over the country.
