Also known as Krouncha Pitham, Chamundi Temple is one among the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas representing the hair of Sati Devi and among the prime place to visit on a Mysore trip. At a distance of about 500 meters from Mysore Railway Station & 2.5 Kms from KSRTC Bus Station, Railway Museum is situated adjacent to the railway station on Krishnaraja Sagar Road. This Museum was established in 1979 by Indian Railways and it was the earliest railway museums set up in India. A visit to Railway Museum is one of the top things to do in Mysore.

The museum houses a great collection of different models of trains ran by India Railways throughout the history. At a distance of 9 km from Talacauvery and 36 km from Madikeri, Bhagamandala is a sacred place situated in Coorg district of Karnataka. Also known as Bhagundeshwara Kshetra, Bhagamandala is one of the famous pilgrimage sites in Karnataka and also one of the top places to experince Coorg Tourism.

Bhagamandala is situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Cauvery and the Kannike. A third river, the Sujyothi is said to join from underground. At a distance of 9 km from Bhagamandala & 44 km from Madikeri, Talacauvery is the origin of the Cauvery River in Karnataka. It is situated on the slopes of the Brahmagiri mountain ranges near Bhagamandala at an altitude of 1276 m. At Talacauvery, there is a square tank called Cauvery Kundike or Brahma Kundike, which is considered to be the birth place of River Cauvery. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Omkareshwara Temple was built by Lingarajendra in 1820 CE. The Shivalinga installed inside the temple is believed to be brought from Kashi. At a distance of 100 Kms from Mangalore, Kukke Subrahmanya Temple located in Subrahmanya (or Kukke Subramanya) is one of the most famous temples in Karnataka and one of the important temples of Lord Subrahmanya (Lord Murugan).

This temple is famous for Sarpa Dosha. Lord Subrahmanya is worshipped as the protector of all serpents. The epics mention that the divine serpent Vasuki and other serpents found refugee under Lord Subrahmanya when attacked by Garuda.

Pilgrims visiting the Temple have to cross the Kumaradhara River and take a holy dip in it before entering the temple. According to Mythology, Lord Kumaraswamy killed the demon rulers Taraka, Shoorapadmasura in a war; and washed his Shakti Ayudha in this river (hence the river is named Kumaradhara).

Sarpa Samskara/Sarpa Dosha is one of the poojas performed at this temple by devotees to get rid of the sarpa dosha. Kukke subramanya can be reached by road from Mangalore and Bangalore.

At a distance of 3 Kms from Udupi Railway Station, Udupi Sri Krishna Temple is one of the famous pilgrimage centers in India.

The Krishna temple was founded by the Vaishnavite saint Shri Madhvacharya in the 13th century. This temple has a fascinating idol of Lord Krishna that is richly adorned with jewels & a famous golden chariot. The unique feature of this temple is that the Lord is worshipped only through a window with nine holes called the Navagraha Kitiki. The daily sevas and administration of the Mutt are managed by the Ashta Mathas.

Saptotsava or the Seven Utsavas celebrated in mid of Jan are considered as the annual festival of Sri Krishna Temple. At a distance of 15 Kms from Udupi Railway Station, 65 Kms from Mangalore & 100 Kms from Murudeshwar, St. Mary's Island is a group of small beautiful islands to the north of Malpe Beach near Udupi. It is said that Vasco da Gama first reached this Island before reaching the Kappad Beach (near Calicut) while finding sea route to India.

The island has two beautiful beaches and crystallized basalt rock formations. The unique rock formations scattered through out the island giving a special landscape to the place. The rock formations are one of rarely found in the world. Eastern beach boasts of virgin sands, western beach is entirely made of sea shells. This unspoiled island is a very beautiful place with white sands, coconut trees, blue waters & pleasant atmosphere.

Malpe is one of the most important ports of Karnataka. The town was earlier known as 'Mrideshwara' and later renamed as Murudeshwar after the construction of the temple. According to the legend, Ravana brought the Atma Lingam from Mount Kailash. Lord Ganesha using his trick fooled Ravana on his way to Lanka and put down the Linga on the ground at Gokarna. Angered by this, Ravana tried to uproot and destroy the Linga. The broken pieces of the lingam were cast away. The Mirjan Fort has rich history and there are many versions on the origin of the fort. According to one version, the fort was built in 16th century by Chennabhairav Devi, Queen of Gersoppa, a subordinate of Vijayanagar kings. Rani Chennabhairav Devi was also known as the Pepper Queen. Her reign was one of the longest in the history of female domination in Indian history, from 1552 - 1606. At a distance of 6 km from Gokarna Bus Station, Om Beach is the most famous beach in Gokarna. Two semi-crescent shapes that join together resembling the Hindu religious symbol of Om. This beach got its name because of its shape.

Om Beach is further along the coast from Kudle Beach. It can be reached by auto, with a downhill walk from there. This beach is usually visited by several foreign tourists as well. The curve of the symbol forms a pool which can be a safe bathing area for even non-swimmers.

The beach is well maintained and there are commercial establishments like restaurants and resorts in close vicinity. In the rainy season there are very limited options for boarding and lodging. This beach currently does not have beach rules and is open to camping and bonfires on the beach.

At a distance of 500 m from Gokarna Bus Station, Sri Mahabaleshwar Temple is one of the important Hindu pilgrimage centers in South India. This temple is regarded second only to the Kashi Vishwanatha Temple in Varanasi and is often called the Dakshina Kashi. This temple is very ancient and enhanced through several centuries. This is also one of the best places to visit in Gokarna.

The Mahabaleshwar temple enshrines the Aatmalinga or Pranalinga of Lord Shiva. This temple represents the Dravidian architectural style and has been constructed using white granite stones. The six feet tall Shivalinga is enclosed in a square Saligrama Peetham. The 1500 years old carved stone image of Lord Shiva in the standing position, is also worshipped here.

At a distance of 800 meters from Gokarna Bus Station and 300 meters from Sri Mahabaleshwar Temple, Gokarna Beach is also known as Main Beach and is also known as Indian Beach. Gokarna Beach is the closest beach to Gokarna town.

It is one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Gokarna. This beach is mainly used by Indian pilgrims because it is located right behind the Mahabaleshwar Temple. As per the religious customs, pilgrims usually visit the temple after a dip in the waters of this beach (not mandatory though).

It is a long open beach and also known for surfing. Tourists can enjoy the view of the rocky mountains on one side and Arabian Sea on the other, while reaching Gokarna Beach. The Gangavalli river meets the sea near the beach. This part of the Arabian Sea is little aggressive and swimming here is not recommended.

The beach may not look very pretty due to a lot of litter, but this beach is famous for sunset. .....

At a distance of 70 Kms from Mangalore, Dharmasthala is one of the famous pilgrimage centers in Karnataka and it is situated on the banks of Nethravathi River. The main attraction of Dharmasthala is famous Manjunatha Temple. This place is also known as Sri Kshetra.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Manjunatha or Lokeshwara, this temple dates back to 16th Century. It is said that the Shiva Linga worshipped at this temple was procured from Kadri Temple in Mangalore. This place was known as Kuduma and later renamed to Dharmasthala in 16th century by Vadiraja Swami of Udupi.

The shrines of four Dharma Daivas (Kalarahu, Kalarkaayi, Kanyakumari and Kumaraswamy) are built well before Manjunatha Temple in Dharmasthala. Lakshadeepotsava celebrated in Kartheekamasa (Nov/Dec) is the main attraction of the temple.

This temple is involved in several social activities, especially, educational institutes for poor.

At a distance of 70 Kms from Mangalore, Bahubali Temple located in Dharmasthala is situated near Manjunatha Temple (about 1 Km) on top of Rathnagiri Betta. This temple enshrines the monolithic statue of Bhagvan Bahubali (Gomatheshwara) which is 39 foot high. Sculpted by the famous Renjala Gopalkrishna Shenoi, it was completed in 1973 and installed in 1982.

Bharata and his younger brother Bahubali, both of royal birth, fought each other in a battle for supremacy. Bharata lost the battle but his life was spared. Bahubali then realized the futility of war and killing to acquire power. He handed over his kingdom to his brother and became a member of the Digambara Jain sect. He began a severe penance, standing naked until he gained enlightenment

The Maha Masthakaabhisheka festival, sacred bathing of the statue with saffron paste, milk and water, held once in every 12 years.
