At a distance of 90 Kms from Mysore via Chamarajanagar, The Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary (K.Gudi which is one of the bases of BRT Sanctuary with accommodation provided by Jungle Lodges) is on a hilly terrain at an altitude of about 5000 feet. It was declared a Tiger Reserve in December 2010.
The sanctuary is spread over 525 sq. kms, spread across several valleys, streams and scenic spots. The wildlife sanctuary is inhabited by a number of animals including elephants, sloth bears, bison, deer, porcupines and a number of other wild animals. It is said that the sanctuary has more than 250 species of birds like the Paradise Flycatcher, Racquet Trailed Drongo and the Crested Hawk Eagle, etc.
Jungle Lodges and Resorts offer good accommodation. Other activities at the sanctuary are trekking, fishing, professional angling, coracle boat rides, bird watching, river rafting, outdoor camping & safaris.
