National Gallery Of Modern Art - History, Timings & Entry Fee

At a distance of 5 km from Bangalore City Railway Station, the National Gallery of Modern Art is an art gallery located in the restored heritage Manikyavelu Mansion on 49 Palace Road, Bangalore. It is one of the most celebrated art galleries in India and among the must-visit Bangalore tourist places.

National Gallery of Modern Art was inaugurated in the year 2009. It is run and administered as a subordinate office of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It is one of the three National Galleries of Modern Art in India, the other two being in Delhi and Mumbai. The Gallery stands as a repository of the cultural ethos of the country and showcases Indian art starting from the early 18th century till the present times.

Spread over an area of 3.5 acres, the two-storeyed museum based in the colonial-style residential building spans across enormous halls and brightly lit, airy rooms featuring some of the best works of the bygone era. It houses around 14,000 incredible works of contemporary and modern artists including the paintings of Raja Ravi Verma, Jamini Roy, Amrita Sher-Gil, Rabindranath Tagore, and a large number of Modern and Contemporary artists. The museum is also equipped with an auditorium, a public art reference library, a cafeteria, and a museum shop.

National Gallery of Modern Art also organizes talks on art and culture, film screenings, seminars, educational programs for children, guided walks, and workshops throughout the year.
