The Rama temple was built by Vengi kings in 13th century but the idol was 1000 years old. The temple is adorned with a large seven-story tower which is quite famous among Telugu movie fans. There is a large image of Lord Vishnu is sleeping posture above the gateway of the tower.

At a distance of 66 km from Warangal, Ramappa Temple (also known as Ramalingeswara Temple) is situated in a valley at Palampet village of Venkatapur Mandal in erstwhile Mulug Taluka of Warangal district.

Ramappa Temple is an ancient temple built by a General Recherla Rudra, during the period of the Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva in 1213 AD. The history says that it took 40 years to build this temple. This temple is constructed in the South Indian architectural style and is devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple got its name from Ramappa, the chief sculptor of the temple. The Kadam Dam is also known as Kadam Narayana Reddy dam, named after popular politician of the region. It is a major reservoir constructed over Kadam River, a tributary river of Godavari. The dam is built at the place where Godavari River merges with River Kadam. Construction of the reservoir initiated in 1949 and completed in 1964.

The main purpose of this dam is to irrigate about 25000 hectares in Adilabad District. However, currently the dam is equipped to irrigate an ayacut of 68000 hectares. The dam is popularly known as the Godavari North Canal project. The Project has been integrated with Sriram Sagar Project. It has two major canals for water distribution, the Left Canal length is 76.8 km and Right Canal length is about 8 km.

Gayatri waterfalls is a very less known place situated on Kadem River, a tributary of Godavari River. This is also a good trekking destination. Bandrev waterfall and Cheekati Gundam are located in a single stretch along with Kanakai waterfalls and all three can be visited together.

The Kanakai waterfall, also called as Kanakadurga waterfalls is located near a small village called Girnur of Bazarhatnoor Mandal. There is also a Kanaka Durga temple located near the waterfall. Large number of devotees from nearby villages visit the temple during festivals. The waterfall is cascading down from a height of 30 ft. There is a big pool at the bottom of the fall. Swimming at the falls is a great experience for the visitors. When you climb up to the top of the falls, you can get the panoramic view of the falls and the surrounding area.

At a distance of 4.5 km from Islahpur village, 60 km from Nirmal, 100 km from Nanded, 116 km from Adilabad and 282 km from Hyderabad, Sahastrakund Waterfalls is a nice waterfall located in Nanded district of Maharashtra.

Sahastrakund Waterfall is an amazing waterfall on the Penganga River, a tributary to Godavari River at Murli village. The water falls can be visited throughout the year, though monsoon is the best season. The water drops from a height of 50 feet to form the breathtaking waterfalls. The rock pattern in surroundings of the falls is also interesting, as the black rock appears like a metal. The water force is quite high during monsoons and not advised to get into the water.

There are two temples near the falls on both sides of the river. A long ramp was constructed to have good views of the waterfalls. There is a watch tower nearby that gives breathtaking views of the waterfall.

At a distance of 22 km from Khammam, 111 km from Nalgonda and 200 km from Hyderabad, Nelakondapalli is an important Buddhist excavation site in Telangana located in Khammam District.

Nelakondapalli is a historic Buddhist site with Stupas and Buddha idols. The site was found during the excavations conducted in 1977. Excavations have unearthed foundations of brick built Viharas, wells, cisterns, a Mahastupa, a bronze idol of Buddha, a miniature Stupa carved in limestone and other materials from the third and fourth centuries.

Nelakondapalli is associated with the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The Virata Raju Dibba and Keechaka Gundam, archaeological evidences from the period of the Mahabharata are located 1.6 km from Nelakondapalli.

Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the right bank of Godavari River and also it is part of Dandakaranya Forest. The sanctuary is named after the River Kinnerasani. This river divides the sanctuary and meets Godavari.

The wildlife sanctuary is spread over an area of 635.4 sq km with the picturesque Kinnerasani Lake and densely forested islands in the middle of the sanctuary. At a distance of 58 km from Srisailam & 173 km from Hyderabad, Mallela Theertham is a charming waterfall located in the dense Nallamala forest. This is one of the popular tourist places to visit near Hyderabad and among ideal weekend getaways from Hyderabad for a day trip. It is situated close to Hyderabad to Srisailam highway and is a popular place to visit while travelling to Srisailam.

With a height of about 150 feet, water directly falls from a high cliff on a Shiv Lingas kind of rock formations. Bordered by thick forest, the surroundings of the falls offer unique experience. The water comes from a small stream which flows through the dense jungle and meets the Krishna River. About 380 well laid steps need to be walked down to reach the falls from the road point. Situated in forest region between Kaleswaram and Bhadrachalam, Bogatha falls is formed on Chikupally Vagu that merges with River Godavari. Situated amidst thick vegetation, Bogatha Falls is a favorite picnic spot for the residents of nearby villages. Dropping from a height of over 30 feet in several parallel streams, the water is collected into a large pool at the bottom of the falls. Swimming in the pool is a favorite activity here and swimming here is considered safe.

Pilgrimage

At a distance of 24 km from Nampally Railway Station & 18 km from Golconda Fort, Chilkur is a small village on the banks of Osmansagar that houses famous 500 Years old Sri Balaji temple. This is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites around Hyderabad.

Also, famed as 'Visa Balaji', this deity at Chilkur showers blessings on the devotees who for any reason are unable to go to Tirupati. As per the local legend, anyone desirous of seeking a wish fulfillment from Chilkur Balaji must first make 11 pradakshinas at the temple and after it's granted, one must return to perform 108 pradakshinas as a way of expressing gratitude. It is also the only temple in India that does not accept any money from the devotees and does not have a hundi.

Approximately, 15,000 to 20,000 devotees visit the shrine during the week, but on Fridays and Saturdays, the temple gets close to 100,000 devotees. Many of whom come to pray to Balaji for visas to travel .....

At a distance of 30 kms from Nampally Railway Station, Keesara Gutta is known for the famous Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple. This is one of the popular pilgrimage sites to visit around Hyderabad.

The presiding deity of the Temple is Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy accompanied by Sri Bhavani and Sri Shiva Durga. The temple is recently renovated. Around this temple, there are a number of ruined shrines in the Gupta architecture of fifth century. There are scores of meter-high lingas the phallic symbol around the main deity. To Hindus, these lingas signify life and fertility. The base of these lingas is set in a base structure that signifies the womb.

Lake & Backwater

At a distance of 75 Kms from Warangal, 29 Kms from Ramappa Temple & 219 Kms from Hyderabad, Laknavaram Lake is a wonderful lake situated close to Etunagaram highway (NH202).

Built by Kakatiyas in 13th century, this is the largest lake in Warangal district. It still provides irrigation water for over 50,000 acres of land. The magnificent lake is surrounded by thick forests of Eturnagaram Sanctuary. The suspension bridge across the lake is a special attraction.

Laknavaram is one of the best places to visit around Warangal and it's a perfect getaway to spend time with family. Boating facility is available in the lake on speed boats and motor boats. Telangana Tourism provides accommodation facilities along with a restaurant on the island in middle of the lake. At a distance of 25 kms from Nampally Railway Station (near NH9 towards Vijayawada) Sanghi Temple is a picturesque complex with 15 feet tall sacred Raja Gopuram. It is situated in a hillock called as Paramanand Giri. This is one of the popular pilgrimage site & tourist place to visit around Hyderabad.

There are 3 tall gopurams seen at the foot of the hillock. The presiding deity of the complex is Lord Venkateshwara, 9.5 feet tall structure. The majestic temple complex is built in the Chola-Chalukya style of architecture.

There are small temples inside the complex dedicated to Padmavati, Shiva, Rama, Anjaneya, Ganesha, Navagrahas, Goddess Ashtalakshimi, Durga and Kartikeya. There is also a Pavitra Vanam or a holy garden in the temple complex where special leaves and flowers are grown for performing poojas.

Lake & Backwater

At a distance of 3.5 Kms from Nampally Railway Station, the Hussain Sagar was built on a tributary of the Musi River by Hussain Shah Wahi during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1562.

It is an artificial lake that connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The Buddha statue is situated in the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake. Boating and Water Sports are a regular feature at Hussain Sagar (from Lumbini Park). During the regatta competitions, the lake looks picturesque and colourful with the yachts sailing on the shimmering waters. Standing on the Tank Bund at night, one is awe-struck to see the glimmering row of lights outlining the lake that looks like a diamond studded necklace. This is the necklace road that enhances the beauty of Hussain Sagar.

There is a local MMTS Railway Station near Necklace Road, connected by trains from Secunderabad, Nampally, Kachiguda, Begumpet & Hitech City.


Lake & Backwater

At a distance of 22 Kms from Nampally Railway Station & 11 km from Golconda Fort, Osman Sagar Lake, popularly known as Gandipet is an artificial lake constructed over River Musi. The reservoir occupies a total area of around 30 sq km. This is one of the popular tourist places to visit near Hyderabad.

It was built in 1920 to provide drinking water source for Hyderabad, and also saving the city from floods. It is named after Osman Ali Khan, The Last Nizam of Hyderabad. The road over the reservoir gates offer good views and cool breeze.

There are a couple of parks attached to the lake, one at the entrance and the other one close to the reservoir road. Though no official boating facilities are available in the lake as this is used for drinking water purpose, small private boats and coracles do operate in the peak monsoons near the northern end of the park.

Situated near Himayatsagar lake in Chilkur, this park is established in 1994. Wildlife population includes sambar, deer, chital, wild boar, porcupine, hare, forest cat, civet cat and mongoose. Bird species include peacocks, warblers, babblers, flower peckers, partridges, lapwings, ducks, curlews and quails. Python, cobra, rat snakes, Russell's viper and monitor lizard are a few reptiles found. The park harbors over 600 plant species ranging from bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Climbers, Herbs, Shrubs and Trees. Prominent trees are Teak, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Neem, Bamboo, etc.

The park has a high view point and a watch tower to watch the animals at close quarters. Snake shows are conducted for tourists. The park houses an environmental education center with an auditorium, a well-stocked library and a museum with wildlife exhibits.

At a distance of 8 kms from Nampally Railway Station, the KBR National Park is located near Jubilee Hill check post in the heart of Hyderabad City.

Named after the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh late Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, it covers an area of 156 hectares. It was established in 1994 to safeguard the biodiversity and richness of the area. The fauna comprises around 113 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles, 15 species of butterflies, 20 species of mammals and numerous invertebrates. It houses the stately Chiran palace of the former Nizam of Hyderabad. The park has nearly 600 species of trees, shrubs, climbers, herbs, grasses, besides several pteridophytes, bryophytes and xerophytes.

The park was renovated in 2001/2002 to create a closed walkway around the park. The diameter of the walkway is around 5 Kms and several famous personalities of Hyderabad including film stars visit this park for walking/jogging.

At a distance of 15 kms from Nampally Railway Station, Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is situated in Vanasthalipuram on NH9 towards Vijayawada.

Named after the holy Jain saint 'Lord Mahavira', it was established in 1975 on 2500th birth anniversary of the saint. This sanctuary was once the exciting 'Shikargarh' or hunting ground of one of the Nizam rulers. It has now been converted into a protected national park. The park is in full bloom during monsoons when beautiful flowers of different colors blossom all around. This Park is home to the endangered Black Buck deer. An estimated 400 deer roam around the National Park fearlessly. The animals in the park are of a wide variety. Black bucks, porcupines, water monitors, short toed eagles, Indian herons, egrets, kingfishers, cormorants and myriad species of birds.

The forest department also organizes a mini van safari into the forest (duration is 15 minutes) which offers excellent opportunity to watch wildlife from close .....

The park comprises a Natural History Museum, a Lion Safari Park and a children-s train. The Mir Alam Tank is with in the zoo park premise and boating facility is available here.
